Material from Yudi and Ayu Mirawati

October 20th, 2014

In that evening, Yudi continued his material one week ago. The material was about jigsaw. The most strategy that I ever heard before. Before continued the presentation, as usual that day began with praying together in the class.
Then, Yudi shared us, that
Jigsaw is a strategy that helps students to:
- Critically analyze, evaluate and apply ideas from a large amount of information.
- Participate and cooperate in small groups.
- Accept responsibility for their own learning.
Yudi also told us about 'Home Groups' and 'Expert Group'. I think home groups here means that the first group that every member of the group got one number. Then the home groups become expert groups, after the same number is met, and discuss the same material with the expert groups. After that , expert groups back to the home groups, and shared the material that already discussed with the expert groups before. The material that Yudi ( as a teacher ) gave to us ( as the students ) was about disaster.
Second presenter in that evening was Ayu Mirawati. Actually, that was the chance for Arya Dwipayana to do the presentation, but he did not come at that time. Ayu Mirawati still in Tuning In Strategies, and the categories are streamline, survey, and viewing.
1. Streamline. 
Stream line is a strategy that will help students to locate current and relevant information on health and safety issues. Here, Ayu Mirawati as a teacher gave us ( as the students ) the issue about water. Ayu Mirawati did such kind of brainstorm. Ayu asked the students to read the text and asked some questions to the students after finished to read.
2. Surveys.
This strategy will help students to develop open-ended questions for a specific target group and analyze survey responses.
žpresent information in a range of formats. Ayu told us about how to make a diagram based on the survey.
  In surveys strategy, Ayu as a teacher asked the students to ask all of the students in the classroom, what they like to do. Based on the survey, Ayu then asked the students to write that survey on the diagram or something like that.
3. Viewing.
Ayu shared us that viewing strategy will help student to gather information and obtain different perspectives on an issue by viewing and analyzing a range of film, television or print materials.
After finished to share the material, Ayu open the questions session. The questions was come from Yuni and Diah.
I as my self also want to ask Ayu about the surveys. I think, the demonstrated are slightly deviate. Because, Ayu only asked the students to write a diagram or something like that. It was same like she ignored the four skills, like reading, listening, writing, and speaking. It more focused about how to draw something in the English lesson.

Material from Edi and Yudi

Hallo every blogger.. long time no see you,, how are you all? I hope you are in good condition. Here, I also in good condition :). So, in this morning, I will share the diary of the presentation in my classroom.
On the date of October 13th , 2014 the presentation was begin from Edi Sudianta. Edi continued his material one week ago about Tunning In strategies. Before continued the presentation, we have prayed together. Then, Edi presented the material about One Minute Challenge. Edi shared us that one minute challenge

is one of learning strategy that used by a teacher to know what  students need by give them a challenge to write down what they want to know in one minute. Then Edi presented the material about Question Partners. Edi told, question partners is one of teaching and learning strategy for teacher to know the ability of students by identify question with their partner. Edi gave us questions and the answer in different papers. Last strategy that Edi presented is about Quiz. Quiz is one of teaching and learning strategy that improve the ability of student by make a set of quiz question and the answer. Edi gave us ( as the students ) an article and the students in group would ask some questions to the other groups , and the other groups would answer the question.
Next presentation will be continued by Yudi in different categories of tuning in strategies. The categories are Brainstorm, Circle Talk, Head Talk, and Jigsaw. 
Yudi said that finding out is a strategy that provides the opportunity for students to develop and demonstrate.
  1. Brainstorm.
    Brainstorm is a strategy that helps students to:
    •Recall existing knowledge and organize ideas
    •Consider others’ views and ideas
    •Develop creative thinking processes and problem solving skills.
    In brainstorm strategy, Yudi gave us (as students) a procedure test, and Yudi did brainstorm in the classroom. Yudi asked the students, what the students knew about procedure test. After did brainstorm, then Yudi as a teacher discuss with the students what's the explanation of procedure test.
       
    2.  Circle Talk.

    Circle talk is a strategy that helps students to share ideas and opinions and develop respect for others’ opinions. In circle talk, Yudi look confused what should he did in that time. Mr. Agus then told, that circle talk can be implemented by made two circles in the front of the class. One inside circle, and the other one was outside. So, the students will face to face in pair to share what they knew about the issue that given by Yudi as a teacher. Yudi gave us ( as the students ) the issue about gadget for young learness. So, the students started to share their opinion about that issues , and moved to the other student in that circle after 3 minutes. After that, the teacher gave a conclusion about the issue. That's called a circle talk strategy.
    3.  Head Talk.
    Yudi told that head talk can help the students to:

    —Develop cooperation through problem solving a shared task

    —Accept responsibility for own learning
     After finished their presentation, both Edi and yudi opened questions session from the audience. The questions was come from Yuni. The question from Yuni was for Edi, Dea's question was for Yudi, and the last Desy's question was for Yudi. After finished to answer all of the questions, Mr. Agus gave some clarifications and comments about the presentation. The first clarification for Edi was never refer the students by left hand. It was not our culture, always check the student's grammar during learning process, and give them the correct grammar. The comment for Yudi was Yudi still less of preparation.
    In my opinion, they did the presentation well, they used their own word, so I can understand well. But Edi still nervous enough during he explain the material, and Yudi still less preparation.

    I think that's all about my blog today. I will share you about the diary presentation in my class next time :).

Material from Desy and Edi

This meeting was begin with prayed and continued the presentation of Desy that delayed last week. In this section Desy told us about card cluster and graffiti.

First, Desy told us, card cluster is a strategy that make students more active and more critics by giving statement or issue in a card. After told us what is card cluster and how does card cluster implemented, Desy asked us to be students in Senior High School and divided us into several groups. One group consist of four till five person. One group  will get one topic which was different with others group. After got the topic, every member of the groups will give statements about the topic, and the same statements will be collected into one. Then, every group will present the conclusion of the topic in front of the class. 

Second, Desy told us about graffiti.
Graffiti is an excellent strategy to enhance students’ thinking skills and promote their writing skills and that is a great way to stimulate students’ participation in the classroom. After told us about what is graffiti, how it is implemented, and what is the advantages of this strategy, Desy asked us again to be students in Senior High School. After that, Desy divided us into several groups which was contain four till five person. One group will get one topic, and Dessy asked us to develop the topic in our creativity. She gave us at least two minutes to develop the topic before the paper will be exchanged into the other groups. It will be carried out continuously until the paper back into the first owner. After finished, Desy choose one group to share the conclusion in front of the class. 
There were two questions. First question was from Nila, and second question was from Dhiras. Desy could answer both of the questions well, and all of the audience can accept her answer.

The next presenter was Edi. Edi also told us about Tuning In Strategies, but Edi focus on KWL, One Minute Challenge, Question Partner, and Quiz.
1. KWL ( Know, Want to Know, Learnt )
Edi told us that, in 'Know' the teacher will give one topic, and the teacher asked the students what we know about the topic. In 'Know', we just shared whatever we know about the topic. In 'Want to Know', the teacher asked the students what we want to know about the topic, and in ''Learnt', students have to discuss the topic with the teacher, so in 'Learnt' we already know about the topic. After Edi told us about KWL, Edi asked us to be students, perhaps in Senior High School. Edi gave us the topic about 'Kertagosa'. Edi wrote one table in the white board. 
Edi asked the students to fill the table bellow.

So now, we as the students already know about the 'Kertagosa'. Then, Edi choose one students to share about Kertagosa after using the KWL strategy.
Because the time was up, so the presentation will be continued next week. Before ended the class, Mr. Agus would give some suggestions or clarify to the presenter about their presentation.
Fisrt was for Desi. Here, the students still can control the teacher. I thing overall Desi did the presentation well, she already moved around to check the students attention. But in 'Graffiti, Desy gave the students more than one topic. Actually, Desi must give only one topic in the class. It will be easier for students and teachers to make a conclusion about the topic.

Second suggestions was for Edi. Edi look confused to explain the material. I think Edi still not well planning. He must read and understand well before he present the material in the class.

Material From Dhiras and Desy

First presenter in this turn was Dhiras Pasyati.
Dhiras shared the material about ' How to teach , using and selecting TLS '

The first time she told us about : 
 Overview Teaching Language (TLS)
She said that teaching refers to the process of imparting knowledge and skills from teacher to the learners.
She also told us there were several strategies in teaching and learning, such as :
1. Tuning in
2. Finding out
3. Sorting out
4. Developing values
5. Making Decisions
6. Speaking Out
7. Reflecting
The second time she told us about :
Using the Teaching and English Strategies, and for the last time she told about
Selecting Teaching and Learning Strategies.
In selecting teaching and learning strategies, Dhiras told several steps :
1. Select an object
2. Take resources into account
3. Consider ability level
4. Consider learning style
5. Consult resource material
6. Do not use the same strategy every time.
After did the presentation, Diah gave a question for Dhiras. The question was : 'What strategy that Dhiras use if Dhiras do the brainstorming first then go to the lesson plan ?'
 Dhiras answered that question and the answer was tuning in strategy, tuning in strategy will be presented by Dessy in the next presentation. After answered the question, Dede and Edi gave Dhiras some comment about the Diah's question. After that Mr. Agus gave Dhiras some questions and a suggestion.
The suggestion was about the tittle of the material that presented by Dhiras. Dhiras wrote : How to Teach, Using, and Selecting TLS. Mr. Agus said that the title must be ' How to Teach, to Use , and to Select.
The Questions from Mr. Agus was :
1. How to teach English in this era ?
2. How to define good and effective teacher ?
Dhiras could answer the question well. She more confident in answered the questions than she presented the material.
After Dhiras answered the questions, Simron Tuke gave the additional information for us about how to teach English in this era. He told that in this era we should teach using appropriate technology and the teacher was not the center. In this era, the center in teaching and learning process must be the students.
Overall, Dhiras did the presentation well. She could explain the material used her own words. But he least to move around, to check the audience participants, and she least to do eye contact with the audience. She just looked on one side in the class. The last was she only stuck on the text. She least to express her expression in presented the material


Second presenter was Desy Ariyanti.
Material from Desy was ' Tuning In Strategies ' .

Tuning in are strategies providing the opportunity for students to explore their current knowledge, attitudes and values  .


The strategies included in this section are:
Before and after
Card clusters
Graffiti
KWL
One minute challenge
Question partners
Quiz
  But in this turn , Desy only told about ' Before and After, Card Cluster, and Grafity '.

1. Before and after is a strategy that used by teacher to know the students’ knowledge before and after learning process.
So, in this section Desy would be a teacher and the others in VD class would be the students. In before and after, desy gave us questionnaire about ' Drugs ', and told us to answer the question in before column. Desy gave us about 5 minutes to answer that questionnaire. After we done it, we collected that questionnaire and the teacher with the students will be discussed the drugs. So, after we( as the students ) done to discuss the drugs, we would like to answer again in after column. After that the students allowed to present the final result. 
After that , Mr. Agus gave desy some suggestion about her presentation. The point of that suggestion was controlled the students unless the students will controlled you. 
I think desy did the presentation nice , she made the classroom atmosphere was happy. But, she let the students too noisy and spend all opinions which were less important in the teaching and learning process. Because the time was up, so the presentation will be continued next week.
